Tank, or Tankie as we call him, was adopted into our family in the Fall of 2007. He is, at best guess, a black Lab and beagle mix (with some unknown brindle breed too). He had been brought into our Vet’s office by his owners who requested he be “put down” because at 8 weeks of age, he had a broken hind leg. The Vet refused to do this and instead requested the couple remand ownership over to him. He repaired the leg and Tankie began his life as a “back office dog.” When I agreed to adopt him at 1½ years old as a companion to Oso, I was told that Tankie had always had ear infections and was advised I would need to keep him on prescription ear meds for the rest of his days. I did not agree with this prognosis as I could see no external reason why this little guy should always need meds, he has large ears but not so large as to have a continuous ear infection. So to start the change over to a more natural and holistic lifestyle, we began the process to switch him over as quickly as possible to what my family dogs eat: Flint River kibble versus what Tankie had eaten all of his life (a high quality dog food offered by many Vets and a few big box pet stores). This change was done over a period of a month or so because, if you’ve ever tried to switch dog foods, you know you cannot do it quickly!
I am happy to report that after just three months on Flint River kibble exclusively, Tankie had no ear infection whatsoever. He was just checked over by our new Vet who validated what I felt in my bones: Flint River kibble, especially since it contains no corn, is a terrific high quality food to give our dogs. I would recommend this kibble to anyone who believes that their dog’s health issues may be caused directly or indirectly by food allergies. Unfortunately, more and more dogs seem to have them and many dogs are allergic to corn.
Additionally, both of my dogs also just adore the Flint River Fish and Chips kibble (made with trout and potatoes). This food, in addition to being corn-free, is wheat-free making it a terrific choice for dogs with food allergies!
